Teachers and students

Our long-standing, comprehensive education program is available to teachers and students across our region. We have a dedicated Education Officer, and all services are provided at no cost to schools.

Services include guided tours of key sites such as reservoirs and treatment plants, in-class and outdoor activities, and a suite of educational resources for teachers and students. The program is provided free of charge to:

  • early childhood learning centres (Water Hero program)
  • primary schools
  • secondary schools, and
  • tertiary institutions

in our service region.

Our Education Officer is available to assist with curriculum planning, advice on saving water, resources and services offered.

Excursions

Come and see the real thing! The most popular component of our education program is the free guided tours of picturesque catchments and world-standard treatment infrastructure.

Excursions are free of charge, subject to availability. Schools need to arrange their own transport to and from sites.

Incursions

Our Education Officer is also available to visit your school for an incursion, subject to availability.

Incursions are free of charge and designed around key water topics.

Kindergartens and early learning centres: ‘Water Hero’ program

The new Water Hero program is designed for early learners. It is available at no cost to kindergartens and childcare centres within our service region.

The program encourages water saving, healthy hydration habits, leadership and peer support. It includes a teacher resource and activity book, free to download.

Free water bottles for preps

As part of our education program, we provide local school students within our service region with re-usable water bottles, specially designed for kids.

The bottles are available to all foundation (prep) students at the start of each school year, and to other groups as part of our dedicated health and hydration incursion. Please email us to request water bottles for your school.

Resources

We have a suite of lesson plans, activity sheets, fact sheets, posters and videos available for students and teachers, exploring all aspects of our water story in fun, interesting and interactive ways.

Resources can be used as part of a learning unit on water, and can complement our excursions and incursions as part of pre- or post-visit learning.

Schools Water Efficiency Program: saving water at your school

The Schools Water Efficiency Program (SWEP) can help your school cut water use, saving water, energy, money and the environment.

The program provides water and electricity data-loggers and an online monitoring dashboard, enabling schools to track water and energy usage, detect leaks early and save on excess water and energy costs.

SWEP is an initiative of the Victorian Government and supported by Barwon Water.
