We’re thrilled that one of our joint projects has been honoured at the Australian Water Association's 2024 Victorian Water Awards.
'Managing Porronggitj Karrong, Place of the Brolga' received the Organisational Excellence Award at a gala presentation held last night.
The project, led by Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation in partnership with Barwon Water, will rehabilitate the 66-hectare river plain on the banks of the Barwon River, to create “a balanced ecological system incorporating Wadawurrung Cultural values for the whole community to connect, listen and learn from Country”.
Public access to this part of the Barwon River, adjacent the aqueduct in South Geelong, has been restricted for 30 years.
Wadawurrung Traditional Owners are leading the creation of a place-based Country Plan, which will guide the delivery of traditional land management and Cultural activities.
We also thank project partner, SMEC, for their work on this exciting initiative.
The award recognises significant and innovative initiatives within the water industry that drive prosperity and sustainability.
