Climate change and our growing population is challenging resources like water and energy. It is important that we plan for and adapt to this changing environment.
We’re supportive of green renewable hydrogen projects that generate a clean energy source, and link energy, water and materials cycles for efficient circular economies.
Green Oxygen for Wastewater Treatment
In partnership with Viva Energy Australia, we are exploring how oxygen enriched air can be used in wastewater treatment at the Northern Water Plant.

The innovative process will progress the circular economy, creating multiple uses and benefits. The oxygen is a by-product of hydrogen production at the new Viva Energy Hub in Corio, which will offer renewable hydrogen refuelling.
The hydrogen will be produced from recycled water supplied by Barwon Water’s Northern Water Plant, and renewable electricity.

Hydrogen-powered prime mover
We will soon be using a hydrogen-powered prime mover, to transport biosolids from our water reclamation plants to the processing facility at Black Rock. The truck is part of the Viva Energy Hub hydrogen refuelling station project, which received $34 million via ARENA and $1m from the Victorian Government.
ComfortDelGro Corporation Australia (CDC), Cleanaway and Toll Group will also be deploying vehicles in the Geelong region.
