Painkalac Reservoir upgrade
The Painkalac Reservoir supplies Aireys Inlet and Fairhaven. The dam embankment and spillway are being upgraded to handle extreme flood events.
Painkalac Reservoir on Painkalac Creek supplies Aireys Inlet and Fairhaven.
The reservoir is being upgraded to meet current dam safety guidelines.
The upgrade will increase 5-fold the dam's ability to manage extreme flood events.
The capacity of the reservoir will not be changed.
This project is being delivered by the Barwon Water Alliance.
Project timing
The project will be commence in summer when reservoir levels are lowest.
Works will occur January–August 2010.
Project impacts
Residents' water supply will not be affected.
During construction, the dam will be closed to the public.
We have developed an Environmental Management Plan and are working closely with Parks Victoria and the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE).
