Building for the future

Download We are building for the future (PDF 615 KB)

Barwon Water is continuing a major capital works delivery program to secure the region’s water supply, through the implementation of projects such as the Anglesea Borefield, the Northern Water Plant and the Melbourne Geelong Interconnection.

After substantial planning and investment, we have great confidence in our diversified water supply. Over the next five years we will implement the biggest capital works program in over a hundred years, which will provide us with water security for at least the next 30 years even accounting for increased climate change impacts and unprecedented population growth.

In the longer term we need to meet the challenges of a rapidly growing population and the potential for climate change impacts on water resources. To do this we will need to identify further sustainable water supply options, as well as continuing to advance technologies that improve water conservation and sustainable urban design.

To meet the challenges of the future, we need to be dynamic, innovative and highly consultative in our approach to sustainable water delivery and management.

To do this we are implementing a significant number of new initiatives designed to increase debate on water supply options, provide greater transparency and scrutiny of issues and concerns related to current supply options, and to give us and our stakeholders access to a wide range of perspectives and expertise on new and existing water supply techniques.

New initiatives include:

  • a series of water forums focussing on important topics related to water supply
  • an “Expert Advisory Panel” to inform and assist us on sustainable water delivery
  • community workshops and improved stakeholder access to information about critical water issues.
