  Water Supply Demand Strategy

Barwon Water is facing a significant challenge to provide a safe and reliable water supply to its customers. Average streamflows have reduced over the past ten years, providing less water than has been available historically. Population growth is continuing, particularly  in the coastal townships where growth rates are expected to remain high for some time. These scenarios mean Barwon Water must do more with less to ensure the management of available water resources is sustainable.

The Water Supply Demand Strategy sets out Barwon Water’s strategy to meet that challenge over the next 50 years. It includes the potential impact of climate change and outlines a significant commitment to water conservation. Augmentation of the various water supply systems will be necessary to meet demand, and the options, which are consistent with Victorian Government water resource planning, are described.

The Water Supply Demand Strategy is one of the most important strategies prepared by Barwon Water, taking the organisation, and the community, into possibly the most critical water supply planning period ever.
