| On July, 24, 2007, the Victorian Government announced non-residential water users who use 10 megalitres of potable water or more, at any one site, would be required to develop and submit a Water Management Action Plan (waterMAP) to their water corporation.
The aim of a Water Management Action Plan (waterMAP) is to help businesses and other non-residential customers reduce water use and save on water and sewerage costs.
WaterMAP customers are required to:
1. Assess their current water use
2. Identify inefficiencies and opportunities for water savings
3. Prepare and submit an action plan to implement water conservation and efficiency actions
4. Report annually on implementation of water conservation and efficiency actions.
In 2006/07, those in the non-residential sector who used 10 megalitres of water or more used 65% of total non-residential consumption in the Barwon region.

The WaterMAP handbook is available for all business to view and download.
