Barwon Water is Victoria's largest regional urban water corporation. We provide world standard water and sewerage services to more than 275,000 permanent residents over an area of 8,100 square kilometres.

Our region of responsibility stretches from Little River and the Bellarine Peninsula in the east to Colac in the west, and from Meredith and Cressy in the north to Apollo Bay on Victoria's south-west coast.

In 2007, we released our Water Supply Demand Strategy, which addresses the challenge of continuing to provide water to a growing population, and the potential impacts of climate change on rainfall in the Barwon Water region.

Apart from providing additional water, the Water Supply Demand Strategy contains actions to improve the way water supply systems and distribution systems are managed. Barwon Water is working to reduce water lost through evaporation and leakage. Pressure reduction programs and replacing open basins with tanks are two examples of work being undertaken by Barwon Water.

Barwon Water is developing integrated water supply systems, which include surface water from rivers, groundwater, recycled water and desalinated seawater from the Victorian Water Grid.

Water conservation will continue to play a vitally important role in managing our precious water resources both now and in the future.

Our target is to reduce per capita water consumption by 25 per cent by 2015, and by 30 per cent by 2020.
