The National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative (NRGI) As part of the $12.9 billion Water for the Future plan, the Federal Government is delivering the $250 million National Rainwater and Greywater Initiative (NRGI) to help people use water wisely in their everyday lives. On January 30, 2009 the Federal Minister for Climate Change and Water announced the Australian Government is offering rebates of up to $500 to households for either:
Please note, Barwon Water does not administer this Federal Government Rebate. The details below are provided for information purposes only. Who is eligible for the scheme? To be eligible, applicants must own the property where the tank or greywater system is being installed. The applicant must be the purchaser of the eligible system, and must submit the appropriate paperwork as described in the application form and guidelines. The dwelling must be an existing dwelling (not under construction), it must be a principal place of residence, and must be connected to a mains water supply. The systems purchased must be brand new (purchased after January 30, 2009), installed by a licensed plumber, be plumbed into the house, and must meet relevant building standards. Please note the NRGI rebate is available in addition to other Victorian State Government rebates pertaining to water conservation products. What products can I get the NRGI rebate on and how much is the rebate? Rainwater Tank* – plumbed for indoor use by a licensed plumber 2,000 – 3,999 litres $400 Rebate 4,000 litres or larger $500 Rebate Greywater System* – installed by a licensed plumber Must be a permanent greywater treatment system * Please see the brochure for more detailed information and definitions on eligible systems
You can apply for your rebate by completing the application form and sending it together with the required paperwork to: Household Rainwater/Greywater Rebate If you are eligible, your rebate will be paid by direct deposit to the bank account you nominate on the form.
Please allow up to eight weeks for the application to be processed.
